From here to there
about the artist
my passion for landscapes and beautiful surroundings was inevitabley imprinted on my mind from a very early age having being born and bred on a beautiful farm outside bedford in the eastern cape.
boarding school made me swop my bare feet, gravel roads and mountains for shoes, a tar mac and lots of buildings… but the longingness for the wide open spaces made it impossible for me to stay away for too long at a time. regular trips home were essential for my clarity and sanity, as are regular trips away from the mother city these days.
photography has been a long time passion of mine, and I was (and still am!) ridiculed for the amount of photos I have collected over the years. from disposable kodaks, to ‘windy windy’ wind up cameras to digital cameras – it has always been more about “capturing the moment” than anything else.
I am religious about taking my camera absolutely everywhere – just incase there might be something that will inspire me, and I have to capture it. I probably wouldn’t have been able to share many of these images with you here today if I didn’t so strictly abide by my “camera-strapped-to-my-hip policy!”
all the images you see here have special significance to my soul.
I hope to create a spark, small or big, in you and in your soul as you stand in front of each piece and appreciate it for it is.
but your mere presence here to view this exhibition has in itself created an opportunity for me to share what makes me tick – wide open spaces, natural beauty, vibrant colour, tranquility and appreciation for what is on our doorstep – so thank you.
‘from here to there’ takes us on a journey from where I am now, back to my roots in bedford.
the pieces showcase various spots around cape town, images taken on the road trip home, and finally arriving at the back gate of the farm house where i grew up.
the barefoot little farm girl is still very much a part of my soul, and I try to live with that same carefree attitude that I had back then…to dance like no one is watching.
